Awesome bit of history

I inherited a copy of this book from my Grandmother. In this age of healthy eating and pre-packaged products everywhere, it's refreshing to see an older cookbook with tried and true recipes from 2 generations ago. Where else are you going to find a nutritional guide that tells you butter is one of the 7 basic food groups?
I've been trying to find a recipe for Kolacky like the Bohemian bakery makes it in Chicago. Not little cookies, but 2-inch danish with a dallop of filling cooked on top. This book has close to 20 Kolacky recipes, both the cookie type and the long-lost danish type. I'm looking forward to trying them.
Search for this book by title on the web, and you'll find the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association that still publishes it... for a lot less than the resellers here.

Wonderful and delicious collection of Slovak recipes

Both of my parents are from Slovakia. My mother used this cookbook throughout her lifetime and gave me one as a gift when I became a new bride. I purchased 3 of these cookbooks a few years ago for each of my grown children so that they could continue the tradition of Slovak cooking/baking. The book has a hard cover and contains over 430 pages of tried and favorite Slovak AND American recipes from people of Slovak heritage. There are also some photos that show a traditional Slovak Christmas and Easter meal as well as kolacky, rozky, etc. I highly recommend the cookbook and hope you will enjoy the multitude of recipes!

My Polish Mother's Most Treasured Cookbookl

My mother was a world class pastry chef as well as a an excellent homecook. This was her favorite go-to book for all things her mother didn't teach her. Every recipe is an adventure that allows a glimpse into a heritage shared by Slovaks,Poles,and really,many parts of Europe. The farina dumplings are the ultimate comfort food, either dropped in a rich stew or sauteed in butter and bread crumbs. If you wonder why anyone would eat a pig's foot; reading one of these recipes will at least give you some insite. A cook's cookbook, to be sure.It even has instructions for leaf lard.
